A £32 million restoration job has now been finished. The ornate plasterwork and barrel vaulted ceilings were amongst the final touches before carpets were laid and contractors moved out.
We were responsible for the barrel vaulted ceilings which run the length of the access corridors around the bar areas of the hall.

The original barrel vaults were preserved, and new entrances prepared which run at right angles to them - in these photos we are forming the arches with steel mesh and applying hydraulic lime plaster which allows the structure to move with the building. Several coats will be applied, gradually building up the strength, thickness and shape of the vaults, after which a finishing coat and limewash.
