A Shropshire farmhouse...

The kitchen

One of the biggest jobs was the kitchen. A metre thick sandstone wall was removed to join the old dairy and kitchen together, and the inglenook fireplace re-built to accommodate a range cooker. The units were built from English oak, by Wycliffe of Warwickshire, a company with whom we work closely. We undertook all carpentry plastering, electrical, tiling, plumbing bricklaying and installation of floors.

Total budget for the kitchen was set at £30,000, with a £5000 allowance for taking out the wall and other structural work.

Above...

The original inglenook and bread oven, and stone wall which was removed between dairy and kitchen.

The original kitchen had very high ceilings and beams which were added 25 years ago for effect. The door was moved to allow better use of space in the corner, and ceilings lowered to allow for insulation and wiring. The floor was retained, as this was Cornish Delabole slate.

The finished product...

The finished kitchen with oak cabinets and 'Baltic brown' granite, to match the colours of the bricks and stone.
